One thing Jaclyn wants future spouses to know: “Leading up to the wedding I was so worried and stressed, but once you get to the day it’s so fun and exciting that you don’t even have time to worry!”
The Meet Cute: Although Jaclyn is from Tiverton, RI, and Jamar is from Randolph, MA, the pair met while attending St. Leo University in Florida. Mutual friends made the connection and the pair agreed to meet in person after chatting on Facebook Messenger.
The Engagement: The couple — who moved to Texas in 2020 — visited family in New England for the holidays in 2021. Jaclyn thought they were going on a group date with two of her best friends and their partners at Sardella’s in Newport. Instead, Jamar rented out a room at the restaurant and proposed to her in front of all their family and friends. They celebrated with a dinner and a party.
The Venue: Jaclyn’s father grew up in Rehoboth, so it made sense that they chose Terrydiddle Farm for the setting. “My dad’s mom passed away a few years ago; we were extremely close,” she says. “We were literally a five-minute drive from my dad’s childhood home where she lived. I felt such a sentimental connection to the location.” The venue was lush and green, with flowers in bloom everywhere, which fit everything Jaclyn was looking for in a New England summer wedding.
The Little Things: The morning of the ceremony, Jaclyn got ready with all of her friends, a memory she treasures. To celebrate Jamar’s culture, they chose a caterer who specializes in Haitian cuisine. Having everyone there together was another highlight of the day. “It goes by so fast,” Jaclyn says. “We were all able to be together even though it went by in a blink of an eye.”
The Advice: “I never felt more calm than the day of the wedding,” Jaclyn says. “Leading up to it I was so worried and stressed, but once you get to the day it’s so fun and exciting that you don’t even have time to worry.” She tells couples to lean on their bridal party and family members for support: Give your parents or maid of honor the phone numbers and have them act as the point of contact. “Give everything to someone else so you can enjoy the day,” she says.
