Jean Mackinnon and Hugh Melor II of Westwood, Massachusetts, are set to wed February 22, 2022 at the Straw Hat Restaurant in Anguilla, British West Indies.
How We Met
Hugh and I met at Chili’s restaurant in Dedham, Massachusetts, on a blind date arranged by Lunch Dates on April 15, 1999. He was recently divorced and I was a single mother, never married with a five year old. Hugh had four children, ages eight, eleven, fourteen and seventeen.
Our Proposal Story
Hugh and I got engaged on March 17, 2019 in Naples, Florida — to my complete surprise. Hugh arranged everything for the special night (and he has never made dinner reservations for us before)!
It was so special with the sun just beginning to set; the private dinner on the beach with champagne and rose petals. It was a truly magical evening. The funniest part of the story is that Hugh had flown to Naples with his brother the week before and he had forgot to bring the ring. He came up with a ruse with his daughter to have me bring him a ‘fake’ present from our grandchildren, so that when I flew to meet up with him, I inadvertently was carrying my own engagement ring. I gave him his ‘Papa’ present from Blake and Kayla and he was ecstatic. Somehow, through the chaos of COVD, we got engaged at sunset and flew home the next morning to Boston and quarantined for four months together with our three foster children, and are planning to live happily ever after.
