How did you meet?
Alycia: We met in 2010 at Revolution Rock Bar on high street in Boston’s financial district. Steven worked as a night club promoter and I was a waitress. We were both too shy to say anything to each other and were forced to talk to one another by a friend… And now here we are, nine years later.
How did you get engaged?
Alycia: Steven and I were together for seven years before we got engaged. We got engaged in Barcelona on the roof top of our hotel. Steven managed to sneak the ring over to Europe without me knowing, even with a TSA agent almost exposing it accidentally… Which I found out later!
Tell us about your planning process.
Alycia: Honestly, when we got engaged we had no idea what we wanted to do for a wedding. We talked about so many different ideas, times, and places. We did some research on some venues online but decided to see the Providence Public Library first for a site visit. When touring the library we both fell in love with the space instantly. It was the first and only venue we saw; I remember seeing the marble staircase and immediately getting chills and tears in my eyes. The idea of having a wedding with every aspect under one roof, in a stunning historical space stuck and we didn’t look any further. The Library is so strikingly gorgeous — it made the planning the decor aspect of the wedding very easy. With the venue came Russell Morin catering, both of us work in Food and Beverage which is what drew us to Providence in the first place..and the food, people are still talking about how much they enjoyed it.
What made you decide to have a winter wedding?
Alycia: Steven and I chose to be married January 20, 2019, two days after what marked our eight year anniversary together. We wanted a bit of snow on the ground, and it turned out we got some snow, lots of freezing rain and very cold temperatures… But it didn’t matter. Our day was more perfect than we ever could have imagined. Being surrounded by all the friends and family we love while beginning our forever together, there’s truly nothing better.
Tell us about the first look. Would you recommend other couples do one at their wedding?
Alycia: I remember I just couldn’t wait to see Steven. It was so hard for me not to ask his opinion on my dress, shoes, hair etc. He’s my go-to for literally everything. Also, I just couldn’t wait for a moment for just the two of us. We chose to keep the first look completely private, with the exception of our photographers and videographers. I just wanted to be with him, in his arms, finally as his bride. It was a moment I never could have dreamt would be as special. We would definitely recommend a first look. Both of us are in the Food and Beverage industry so creating our menu for the day was extremely important to us. We wanted to enjoy cocktail hour with everyone we love, and eat really well while doing it. Having the formal photos done prior to the ceremony was also great. However, we did separate again after photos. I also did not wear my veil during the first look so coming down the aisle felt just like we were seeing each other for the first time.
Tell us about your adorable pup-of-honor!
Alycia: Bentley is the best little guy in the world. He’s by our sides every moment of every day and we couldn’t imagine him not being there to witness his parents get married. He did hair and makeup with the girls all day. For the ceremony, he walked down the aisle so proud with one of my bridesmaids, his auntie Auria. After the ceremony was over, we were fortunate to have a friend of a friend take Bentley back to the hotel for a slumber party.
What other details did you include?
Alycia: Steven and I focused a lot on small meaningful details. We were engaged in Barcelona, and Pronovias, the designer of my dress, is based in Barcelona, and our first dance was to George Ezra’s “Barcelona.” We did not want to go over the top with the library theme, so we stuck to the folded book table numbers, and the library card catalog for seating arrangements. All of the “library card” stationery came from @theBirdandtheBeard — they were incredible at bringing our vision to life. Keeping the stationery classic and simple.
Did any vendors particularly stand out?
Alycia: We love succulents, greenery, and lush neutral flowers and Pine & Petal nailed our vision. Our arrangements ranged in height on each table creating depth throughout the room.
Then there was Michael Marcoux, a wedding coordinator sent from heaven. Michael’s organization, attention to detail and patience deserves more recognition than we could ever explain. Not to mention, he’s an unbelievable person. The day would not have gone the same without him.
What was your favorite moments from that day?
Alycia: It was easy for us to decide that the first look was both of our favorite moments. With all the stress and craziness of the day, it was nice to have that moment with just each other to find some solace.
Steven: I knew Alycia was going to look gorgeous but nothing could have prepared me for how stunning she looked. I think I cried the entire first look. I personally think that photos tend to be more intimate and special in a first look setting as opposed to the rushed session after the ceremony. The first look also enabled us to enjoy every detail and aspect of the wedding not missing anything including cocktail hour. Instead we spent the with love ones enjoying creating so many more special memories.
What advice do you have for newly engaged couples?
Alycia: Our advice to newly engaged couples we would to enjoy the process, every second. It is so easy to get stressed with planning. Remember what the day is actually about; always remember it’s about the two of you. Also, make sure to take a moment during the wedding just the two of you together to take a look around and take it all in. Michael, our amazing wedding planner gave us this advice and we were so happy he did.
The day flies by and it’s the absolute best. Enjoy every moment and do whatever it is that makes the both of you the happiest.
