Elena Savelyeva of Toronto, Canada and Hunter Shaffer of Providence are set to wed at the Glen Manor House on September 14, 2018.
How We Met
After a long grueling day and six hours of job interviews, Lena’s only desire was to hide under the covers and watch her favorite show “Black Mirror“. Her roommate, Renee, however, had other plans. And thank God she did.
Hunter was in Chicago for a work conference and had agreed to meet his longtime Peace Corps friend, Renee, on Saturday night. After being dragged out of bed to join them, Lena walked into their kitchen… and Hunter fell in love at the first sight. This is how their long distance story began. Dozens of (if not more) flights later and following Lena’s graduation from business school in Chicago, they could not be happier to finally see each other every day for the rest of their lives.
Our Proposal Story
Lena decided to play hooky from school and join Hunter on his trip to Nantucket. On Saturday, May 20th, they decided to go biking around the island. It was a hot day, and Hunter made Lena wear his dirty Corona t-shirt. They were traveling with their favorite couple, Craig and Anne, who happened to bring a professional camera with them. Hunter insisted they go visit one of the picturesque lighthouses on the island and once there he brought Lena right in front of it . Lena’s immediate reaction was, This would have been such a great spot to propose!” Upon hearing that, Hunter got down on one knee and popped the question. Lena did not see it coming, and couldn’t have been more excited to say “Yes.” It was the most beautiful ring she had ever seen! Little did she know that poor Hunter was nervous all day; not only about proposing, but also about keeping the ring safe while he was biking and hiking. They proceeded to celebrate with Craig and Anne and even made some new seal friends.
