 According to a recent survey conducted by The Knot, Rhode Island couples are more likely — as in a whopping 87% of us — to go on a honeymoon than any other couples in the U.S. (not too sure what this says about Little Rhody, but we digress) So, chances are, if you’re reading this as a recently engaged RI resident, you’re probably planning to book a little romantic post-wedding excursion for you and your soon-to-be significant other. And you’ve come to the right place! Below, local travel gurus, Destination Wedding and Honeymoon Planners, answer some of your most burning honeymoon (and destination wedding!) questions.

What is the most commonly asked question by couples about planning their honeymoon?  

Probably: “Why should I use a travel agent over the internet?”

How far in advance should a bride/groom be booking their honeymoon and why?

I really suggest the earlier the better. Six to eight months seems to be the average time brides and grooms start the process. If you want that perfect location at the resort it will not be available if you start looking for six months prior to the wedding. Air prices are always better eight or so months before you want to leave.

What do you foresee being a popular honeymoon destination in 2016-2017?

Mexico has always been a strong choice because of its sunny and warm beaches and value. Europe is another destination that is becoming even more popular with honeymooners that don’t necessarily enjoy relaxation, and are always on the move. Another big trend we are seeing is customized tours and honeymoon locations off the beaten path along with adventure and Social impact travel.

What are some items couples should never leave behind when traveling?

A sleep mask, neck pillow and blanket for the plane — we never leave home without them! Items for feeling refreshed while on the plane and once you’ve landed like a face mister, lotions, toothbrush, hand sanitizer and comfortable socks.

What are the steps in planning a destination wedding?

The planning of a destination wedding is very similar to that of a stateside wedding. The main difference could be size of the wedding. One of the best things about a destination wedding is that it will be different than your friends and the whole celebration is centered on the bride and groom in a different culture. You do need the experience of a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings. They can help create the memories of a lifetime.
