Tell us how you met: Nick and I met through my cousin Mark — he was one of Nick’s best friends in high school. They were always together and my family lived in a three family house together so we always saw each other. However, I didn’t make a move until my eighteenth birthday party. Nick was at the party and was in the kitchen talking with my family when I stole his phone and put my number in it and then gave it back. The two of us talked for a whole year to get to know one another better. Once I felt like there might be a chance of us dating, I asked my cousin Mark if he was alright with it as I didn’t want to cause issues between them. He told me he didn’t have any issues with us dating and that Nick was a really great guy and the rest is history.
Tell us your proposal story: The evening started out like any regular night, Nick had made plans with our friends to go out to dinner. I had never been to the Cheesecake Factory in Providence so he made plans to go there for dinner. We got dressed up and met our friends in the parking lot and went inside. We were sat almost right on top of another couple so we all asked to move into a booth. Nick conveniently was able to sit on the end. We ordered and ate dinner and had just finished ordering dessert. Nick looked at me and said that he was going to the bathroom, which I found weird because he never uses public restrooms when we go out to eat. So I went on with talking to our friends at the table as Nick and myself were leaving for a cruise in two days and I was getting really excited as it would be our first time on a cruise. Upon Nick’s return to the table, he began thanking everyone for coming out and being here with us. He then looked at me and stated my full name, got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and asked me if I would marry him. I was so shocked that I don’t even remember saying yes, I just remember him putting the ring on, me kissing and hugging him and then showing everyone the ring. Shortly after, our cheesecake came out and our friends informed the waitress that we just got engaged. They brought out a scoop of ice cream with a candle in it and “Congratulations!” written in chocolate around the outside. It was an amazing moment and the icing on the cake for our cruise.
