An intimate, backyard wedding in Warren.
Finding a pearl in an oyster is lucky, but netting a diamond from a clam? That’s once in a lifetime, and exactly (sort of) what happened the day DJ proposed to Maya. The two were quahogging on Hog Island, as they often did, when she says he called to her, “‘Hey, Maya, look what I found.’”
“I turned around and he was on his knees with the ring. It was so perfect. Very us.” Their wedding was the same, she says, and is a perfect example of how uncomplicated, personal and wonderful a wedding can be. “We tried to keep it as casual a party as we could. The whole process was super simple,” Maya says.
Knowing they didn’t want the typical sit-down wedding fare, they instead opted to order their favorite foods from different restaurants — donuts, egg rolls, pizza and a food truck, among others, all made appear-ances. Most of the flowers came from their garden, and her cousin officiated the ceremony. The kids played lawn games, the adults danced and everyone enjoyed themselves. “Every person involved was so helpful,” Maya says. “It was a perfect day.” –Jennifer Steffy Swanson
