BY ANGIE SARHAN
The night David and I met someone overheard us talking and asked if we were married. We laughed it off and explained we had only just met.
“You two should get married,” was his response.
David and I locked eyes, and quickly changed the subject.
But then, just a few minutes later, it happened again. An acquaintance of David’s came over to say hi and asked David if I was his wife. When he responded that I wasn’t, the gentleman looked at David and said, “Well, she should be. You should marry her.” He looked at me and said, “Will you marry my friend?”
We laughed this exchange off too.
And that’s when a third person—this time someone I had met once before—came over to say hi to me, saw David and asked if he was my husband. When I told her no, she looked genuinely shocked.
“Your boyfriend, then?”
At this point I started to realize that maybe people could sense something between us. It wasn’t that hard to believe since I could sense it too.
We talked for three more hours.
By the end of the night, David hadn’t proposed, but he did ask for my phone number. As he saved it into his phone I jokingly said, “You might as well program me in as your wife since everyone already has us married.”
David laughed.
Then he did just that.
Even though a proposal felt imminent after that first night, it didn’t happen when our nearest and dearest expected it would. (Or me for that matter!)
Our first anniversary of the night we met? No, not then.
A romantic beach vacation? No, not then either.
The time I turned around to find David down on one knee stole my breath. But he wasn’t proposing then either—just tying his shoe, he said.
It took me a minute to recover from that one.
Then there was the Saturday afternoon at lunch where David had us raise our glasses to toast.
“Here’s to wherever the day and night takes us.”
Spoiler alert: It didn’t take us anywhere out of the ordinary. No proposal then either!
Our trip to Europe? Nope. Not even a thought, though I think our family and friends had some bets going.
And then one evening, on the night of David’s birthday, he proposed. Since I was so fixated on planning a special day for him, I never expected he was planning a special day for us.
He wanted to give himself a birthday present, he said.
And since that September night, we have been celebrating, wedding planning and watching the days fly by as our summer wedding gets closer and closer.
And closer.
As these final months unfold (our wedding is set for July 31, 2016), we are so excited to share this journey with all of you. Thank you for being a part of our story.
Here’s to wherever the days and months take us!
