Molly: The Plan’s In Motion

Molly: The Plan’s In Motion

An Ocean State wedding this summer on a dock by the bay.

By Molly O’Brien

You haven’t heard from me in a while. Sorry about that, but fear not: Glen and Molly are gonna get hitched.

We were always going to get married. It was just a matter of when.

Come July we’ll be sitting on a dock by the bay, getting married with this beautiful view.

Here’s the thing. We were ready to go — about to sign a contract — then some life happened. We had some family business to address. My world got turned upside down and everything came to a screeching halt.

I had a plan. When that plan crashed, I pretty much quit. I had some decisions to make. The options were too difficult to weigh, too overwhelming to face so, you see, I just stopped. I thought about it over and over again every day, while not thinking at the same time. We thought, “Let’s put this off. Let’s wait a year. Or two. Or five. What’s our rush?”

Then we had 18 million snowstorms. Winter lagged on. More thinking.

Then Glen and I were granted an opportunity for our wedding that we couldn’t pass up so, just recently, we decided that we’re getting married. This summer. BAM.

Yes, it is soon, but why take a year to plan when you can take three-and-a-half months?

Moral of the story is I have an amazing family that I love so dearly. I’m so thankful for each and every one of them. It’s been a difficult journey for all of us, and I’m grateful for their support and strength as we figure out what the heck we are all doing at this time in our lives.

I also have an awesome group of family called the Whitfields. Glen’s family is like okay! the whole way. They haven’t pushed, pried or poked this whole time. My fiance is unbelievably supportive. Who knew you could find someone who will stand by your side when you don’t know what to do with your life? Jackpot!

Now back to that series of snowstorms. It was roughly the eighteenth storm of the year and I said to Glen, “I need beach. We need beach. What if we got married in the Caribbean, just you and me, came back and got married here for real, went to the Seattle and did a small party with my family, then went to Hawaii for our honeymoon?”

Can we afford that? Nope. Can a girl dream? Yep. We both thought it was a brilliant idea, and it set the wedding wheels in motion.

Now we are both working our little fannies off to make an awesome wedding happen right here in the beautiful Ocean State.

Come July we’ll be sitting on a dock by the bay, getting married with this beautiful view.

Wish us luck, and I’ll keep you posted.
