Their figures and personalities are different, why not the dresses?
By Erika Lynde
Ok, so here’s the deal with dressing the bridesmaids: I’m not doing it. I’m sorry, but in my opinion, there is no dress ever made that can fit my girls’ personalities and bodies perfectly. We were all made to be different so let the maids be just that!
My girls’ identities couldn’t be more different. My sister, Krissy, is creative and cool with a little bit of an edge. She’s model-esque with a tall thin figure and has one arm covered in bright tattoos. Her skin glows porcelain white, but my favorite feature are her big round amber eyes. My maid of honor, however, is completely different. She is cute, petite and bubbly. Alissa is the life of the party everywhere she goes. She’s warm and inviting and her smile can light up a dark room. She’s built a little like me — hourglass with a side of curvy. Her perfectly bronzed skin puts even my best tan to shame. You see, there’s no way I can fit these two girls into one category of female, never mind the same frumpy dress.
I took to Pinterest and did some fishing. All over I’m seeing this new trend of mix-matched bridesmaids. I have fallen in love. This is perfect! Having each girl dress to her own comfort level makes me one happy bride. This way they can choose their own price range, and inflect their own sense of style. Maybe I can add a nice touch, using the same accessories to link them as bridesmaids, but other than that, I’m set on this decision. I’m sure there will be confusion when the girls walk out in different dresses, but that’s okay. It’s just another aspect of my wedding that makes it more uncommon and creative. Still, I truly believe each bridesmaid in the same dress is so last season. So unless all of your girls look exactly the same, (which they probably don’t), maybe you can avoid some stress and check another thing off your agenda. Do like me and give them some colors and a theme and let them have fun. I’m sure each girl loves you enough to run it by you first, so what’s the harm?
